New York Charter School to Pay Teachers 125K

A New York charter school plans to pay its teachers $125,000 per year. Now, before you race off to apply, you need to know a few things about the process.

First, the person selecting teachers is a brilliant Yale grad, with a whopping three years of teaching experience. Of course, he’s learned plenty about educating America’s troubled youth in that time.

The school’s founder is Zeke Vanderhoek, who has lived a whole 31 years on our planet, thinks he knows how to salvage education in America.

Is it some new-millennium technology, you might ask? No. It’s all about money, vocabulary and Latin.

In his 31 years of silver-spoon living, Zeke’s learned that money is the driving force behind anything that works. It’s what makes people effective.

In three amazing years of teaching, old Zeke learned that 30 kids in a class is okay; what teacher making six figures would ever complain? So, Zeke will pack ‘em into his great new school.

This pubescent Ivy Leaguer has also learned that apart from encyclopedia-sized dollar signs, teachers need Mark Twain-like vocabularies, as he’ll only accept applicants who scored in the 90th percentile in the verbal section of the GRE, according to the New York Times.

Of course, Latin is required at old Zeke’s school, so knowing this will help, too.

You have to hand it to old Zeke, though. He has learned that starting a school like this one will take cutting some corners in the budget. So, his 125k-per-year teachers will have to do some office work, counseling, social work and other chores, in order to maintain their lofty salaries and keep this remarkable new school afloat.

Of course, there probably won’t be much room for new-millennium technology and interactive resources that make for good teaching and learning in large classrooms.

Old Zeke won’t mind.

After all, he’ll have his 125k-per-year, six-syllable-word, Latin-spewing teachers, working round the clock to maintain order in a 30-kid-per-class school.

Anyone know how to say, “Good luck, chumps” in latin?
